Cllr Heather Goddard, Chair of the South Gloucestershire Partnership

Cllr Heather Goddard worked as a design Technology teacher in Bristol schools and spent 35 years at St Thomas More School, a catholic comprehensive school in an inner city area where she was 2nd in the faculty before taking early retirement in 1999.
She started her work in local Government in 1979 when she was elected to Kingswood District council on which she served until 1996. During that time she chaired the Environment committee and latterly the Leisure and Recreation Committee and was shadow chairman of the Planning Committee. In 1986-87 she was elected as Chairman of the authority and led the council through the procedures to change it from a District authority to become a Borough council.
She was elected to South Gloucestershire in 2003 where she served for the last 8 years. During this time she was spokesperson on the Community Select committee and then became the Executive Member for Communities between 2007-2011 and then moved to Executive Member for Health, External affairs and Partnership Development after the elections in 2011.
After retirement Heather chaired National Health Service complaints panels, worked for the City of Bristol College teaching clients of Rethink and ARA (Addiction Recovery Agency) as well as being a Lay member of Bristol City Council for the inspection of their residential homes for the elderly and those with learning difficulties. She also held a government appointment as a member of the Board of Visitors for Ashfield YOI and HMP.
She is currently a director of Destination Bristol. She is a member of the South West European Partnership and South West Councils as well as chair of three strategic partnerships for the Council. She is also a Governor of a junior school and a member of two parish councils.
