Amanda Deeks became Chief Executive of South Gloucestershire Council in February 2003. She had been at South Gloucestershire Council as Director of Corporate Resources for 2 years prior to that.
Before coming to South Gloucestershire Amanda was Director of Planning and Performance Management in a joint position for Herefordshire County Council and the Health Services. Amanda is a qualified accountant and has spent all her career in public services including County Councils, District Councils and Health Authorities. South Gloucestershire Council is a unitary authority and Amanda is responsible for over 8,000 staff and a budget of £200m, with functions ranging from Education, Social Services, Housing, Planning and Transportation, Community Services and Leisure. Amanda also leads South Gloucestershire’s involvement in the West of England sub-regional Strategic Partnership (with Bristol, North Somerset and Bath and North East Somerset). Amanda was awarded an OBE in the 2009 New Years Honours list for her work with the West of England Partnership.
