Police and Crime Commissioner, Avon and Somerset


Sue was born in Bristol and now lives in North Somerset.  In November 2012, she was elected as the first Police & Crime Commissioner for Avon & Somerset and has launched her first Police and Crime Plan setting out her vision for policing and community safety across Avon and Somerset for the next four-years. The Plan covers the Commissioner’s four priority areas of

  • tackling anti-social behaviour
  • burglary
  • violence against women and children
  • putting victims at the heart of the criminal justice system

Before being elected as the Commissioner, Sue was an independent member of Avon and Somerset Police Authority (the body which, as Police and Crime Commissioner, she replaces) being the lead member for major crime and the Chair of the Brunel Board. She was also vice-chair of the Independent Monitoring Board for Bristol Prison and a magistrate for 15 years. Earlier in her career she set up and ran Mountstevens Coaching Associates (2003 – 2012) and was a director of the Mountstevens Bakeries chain (1978 – 1998)
